I ended my time at SMM in 2008. The education i received there was extremely beneficial. There was a great emphasis on community and family involvement that was promoted. The one thing that really made a negative impact for me while attending this school for nine years was the lack of diversity. I am a young woman of color and while enrolled at St.Mary Magdalen, there was only one other girl who was African American. Most of the pictures that were shown in newsletters and presentations were of younger thin white children. This became quite an issue for me. Even tho the education was beneficial, there are still mental and emotional scars that i am left with after my childhood experiences at this school.
We have been fortunate to send both our daughter's to SMM for pre-school and on to continuing their primary education. The Pre-K teacher and assistant are the BEST you will find! I appreciate their dedication, creativity, energy, care and passion for educating our children. Both our girls built a solid foundation and easily progressed from Pre-K onto Kindergarten.
My son has been going there for over a year. I love the diversity of the school, which is something that is lacking in the public schools. The classroom sizes are about 22 kids, which is perfect for a dedicated teacher to focus on individual students and give them the attention they may need at times. Overall, I am very happy with the school.
Since it's my belief that you should never hate anything I did not give SMM 1 star otherwise I would have. My family and I miss Sister she was the best very accepting and willing to communicate, a true Christian. Under the new "reign" we do not feel accepted as a family they draw conclusions which are incorrect and pass judgement on others very quickly. The reason I sent my daughter to this school in the first place was so that she could learn to not judge others and to treat others with kindness, along with having a good education of course. This is our last year at this school and I would not recommend this school to anyone unless they change things substantially which I doubt unless they replace a few staff members or rather the hierarchy. Check out St Thomas More in Lynnwood or Holy Rosary in Edmonds I've heard good things from the parents at those schools.
Excellent school and supportive parent community. My son started in preschool and I was impressed with the curriculum and high standards. I continue to be happy with the education and enrichment opportunities my kids have at St. Mary Magdalen School.
